That feeling when you are comfortable on bed and pretty much sleepy suddenly you are rudely awoken as your body makes a sudden jerk!
it is very uncomfortable and no matter how many times you have felt it , it is still very shocking .

The hypnic jerk is slightly exceptional relying on who you are however the most common way people have described it that you are about to fall.
As for why it occurs, scientists say that it occurs when we're really exhausted and the brain attempts to make you sleep very quickly.
A burst of chemicals released by the brain then creates a dream with the function of waking you up quickly, resulting in the feeling of you falling or that quick jerk.
Consuming anything caffeinated before sleep increases the chance of hypnic jerk. Sometimes when are on medication we still feel hypnic jerk because it also works as caffeine.
